Menopause means the cessation of female monthly menstruation [period]. Menopause is an intermediary stage that takes place when a woman’s reproductive organs fail to produce eggs, causing her menstrual cycle to stop. Menopause is medically defined as “no period [menstruation] for at least 12 months that is not due to any underlying medical condition”. Typically, menopause begins after the age of 40. There are exceptions with some women commencing menopause earlier in life. More often than not, the symptoms of menopause begin some time before onset of menopause.

Symptoms of Menopause

Menopause used to be viewed as the beginning of old age. Today a majority of women in developed countries can expect to live more than a third of their lives after menopause. Menopause and symptoms of it includes fluctuations in estrogen levels can cause symptoms like hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, vaginal dryness, difficulty concentrating, and weight gain. While some women experience few or no symptoms of menopause, others experience severe symptoms that cause them extreme discomfort.Eat one to two tablespoons of ground flaxseed a day.

Women who are looking for such products which help to relieve menopause symptoms, should first of all list down the symptoms that they are experiencing. They can then go about buying a particular product, based on their symptoms. They should make it a point to rate each of the symptoms based on the severity. This is an important aspect which is often ignored by many. For instance you cannot expect a menopause relief product that gives relief from erratic moods to work in case you are suffering from severe hot flashes.

The use of hormonal therapy (HRT) for the symptoms of menopause has become controversial over the last few years, although media hype and misinformation may take some credit for that. That being said, the symptoms of menopause can often be effectively managed by more natural treatments. The most commonly used herbs and supplements for symptoms of menopause are briefly discussed.

In some women, early menopause may be due to failure of the ovaries and is called premature ovarian failure. It is thought that such failure is due to hormonal, autoimmune or genetic processes, which result in a depletion in the number of viable eggs in a woman’s ovaries. This depletion may be complete, or, in approximately ten percent of women who have premature ovarian failure, partial. These women have a reduced but possible chance of becoming pregnant. Recent research has shown that female twins may be up to four times more times more likely than other women to undergo spontaneous early menopause. Either or both twins may be affected.

Menopause is a natural condition and not an illness that occurs when the ovaries no longer produce enough estrogen to stimulate the lining of the uterus and vagina. Simply said menopause is when women no longer menstruate or get pregnant. It generally occurs to women somewhere between the ages of 40 and 60. One of the most famous signs of menopause is the hot flash, a sudden reddening of the face accompanied by a feeling of intense warmth. Other common symptoms include depression, fluid retention, insomnia, mood swings, nervousness, night sweats, and painful intercourse, and anxiety, urinary changes, thinning of vaginal tissues, vaginal dryness and weight gain. It should be noted that some women experience few symptoms while still others encounter none at all.
